RhythMachine is the perfect practice tool.  It generates rhythmic and melodic patterns according to your criteria.  You decide how many beats to generate and how many times the pattern should be repeated.

OctopuSequencer is 4 sequencers in one package.  Assign each sequencer to a limb and it can generate the kind of layered polymetric grooves that Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, Mike Mangini and Marco Minnemann are known for.
